I went to a “Wine and Dine” event this past weekend and was thinking about what I was going to use to carry the wine glasses and appetizer I was taking with me. I have lots of those reuseable grocery bags but I wanted something pretty. Since I have lots of fabric, I made a large market tote.

Large quilted market tote

I interfaced with fusible fleece so it has a lot of body. To make it more sturdy, I got out my hopping foot and quilted the outside of the bag in a large meandering pattern. It has been a while since I actually quilted so that was fun and (strangely) relaxing.

I used some cotton canvas to line the bag and put a line of 3 pockets across the interior back. As always when I make a tote I inserted a fabric covered plastic board in the bottom for additional support.

As a final piece, I made a fabric rosette using some scraps of canvas and lace. Because the fabric has a definite French feel, I attached a metal fleur de lis to the rosette for a little more detail.

With all the other sewing I have been doing, I forgot how much I enjoy quilting. Last year I started a small Halloween quilt and has been in a plastic container. I think it is time to spend a day just quilting!
